Sidewalk dining and people watching on one of downtown Milwaukee’s hippest streets is a must when weather permits. This romantic location offers the backdrop for a special and memorable dining adventure.
The art moderne building was constructed in 1937 as the John Mariner Building, a commercial office building using cast-in place concrete with a limestone exterior and was the first centrally air-conditioned commercial office building in Milwaukee. The interior of the building was completely reconstructed in 1998 to Department of Interior standards and is listed on the Historic Register. The decor of the hotel, a blend of Art Deco and the 1930s European Art Moderne, flows with the streamlined design of the Art Deco building. The tranquil ambiance created in the hotel was achieved through the use of smooth curves and ovals, natural fibers, warm colors and soft, recessed lighting. Author Ray Bradbury claims, “The Hotel Metro is superb. If I didn’t look out the window, I’d think I was in Paris.”
At Hotel Metro, we embrace a culture sensitive to the needs of our guests, employees and community. We strive to use products that are environmentally sensitive, yet provide you with a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Wood veneers utilized in the guest rooms and public areas, as well as the bamboo floor throughout the hotel, are sustainable forest products. The bedding, window treatments and lampshades are made of natural silk and cotton and the carpet made from recycled materials. Each suite is equipped with convenient amenities, which include an honor bar, personal safe, complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate, free high-speed internet service, voice mail, two-line speakerphones, an iron and board, two HDTV’s and Aveda bath amenities.
