SHARP Literacy, Inc.

History – SHARP Literacy, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community-based organization located in Milwaukee, WI. Since it was established in 1996, SHARP Literacy has helped more than 70,000 students, most of whom are underprivileged and at-risk, improve their research, reading, writing, and presenting skills. The students we serve attend public, charter and choice elementary schools in the Milwaukee’s inner city and near southside. In the 2012-13 academic year, SHARP will collaborate with 30 schools and serve approximately 5,500 1st-5th grade students.

Mission and Goals – The mission of SHARP Literacy is to energize urban school children to become confident, capable readers, writers and researchers, using the visual arts to engage young minds and reinforce learning. The goal of SHARP is to work together with the schools, families, and the community to increase the reading and writing skills of 1st through 5th grade students while helping them build the confidence and self-esteem they will need to remain focused on their education as they get older.
