A fascinating story of Donat, a British student who is sent to Siberia as a spy in imperial Russia. When the revolution arrives, he is released as a hero. His first duty is to conduct the Imperial Countess (Dietrich) to prison. On the way, they fall in love. He now has to save her from falling into the hands of the Red Army. Their escape becomes very complicated fleeing between the two fighting armies. Directed by famed French director, Jaques Feyder.

What is Movie Time?
This film series is presented in partnership with leading Milwaukee film historian, Dale E. Kuntz. Special choices from his extensive collection of 16mm classic films from the 1930s and ’40s are shown in their original reel to reel format. Most of his films are not on DVD, so the audience has a rare opportunity to see these films that are otherwise unavailable.

Prior to each screening, Dale fascinates the audience with his vast knowledge of film history and gives the inside scoop on each movie. Learn the bizarre details about the stars and the clues to help the audience spot little oddities that end up in the film instead of on the cutting room floor.

As a bonus, on any Wednesday when a film is scheduled, general admission to the Museum doubles as a movie ticket. Guests may choose to arrive early for a short Museum visit and then stay for the film.

Romance and Adventure
Romance and Adventure have been in motion pictures from the very beginning, the first being in 1896. Patrons were shocked when May Irwin was given a prolonged kiss by John C. Rice in THE KISS! Adventure reached the screen in 1920 when Douglas Fairbanks Sr. starred in THE MASK OF ZORRO –the first swashbuckling film ever made. Romance and Adventure reached their high peak in the 1930’s and 40’s – with stars like Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, Louis Hayward and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. In films like ROBIN HOOD, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, THE MARK OF ZORRO (remake) and SINBAD THE SAILOR. Romance is still in films, adventure seems to have moved into high-speed car chases, outer space and what have you. So sit back and enjoy some true adventure with lots of romance.
