Soup with Substance Talk

 

In conjunction with the exhibition “Toward the Texture of Knowing”, this experiential mindfulness lecture will invite you beyond the thought track of your mind into the experience of being fully alive. So often we walk through our days, minds occupied by tasks undone and schedules to be arranged. All the while meaningful moments and points of impact pass by unobserved. Mindfulness beckons us to come into contact with the texture of our body, emotions and sensory experiences, so that we can attune and connect with ourselves and the wider world.

Jamie Lynn Tatera is an educator, author and curriculum designer. Her classes and curriculum creatively integrate the science and practices of mindfulness, self-compassion, emotional intelligence and positive neuroplasticity. Her mindfulness training is extensive, and she teaches in a variety of settings ranging from kindergarten classrooms to college campuses.

Inspired by the round table discussions of Peter Maurin and the Catholic Worker Movement, Soup with Substance is a noon-time series of presentations on contemporary issues related to peacemaking and social justice. Soup with Substance is open to the public and a simple meal of soup and bread is provided at each presentation. The program is sponsored by the Center for Peacemaking, Campus Ministry, and the Center for Intercultural Engagement.
